Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (SGBV) Assessment and Response for Nurses
Overview
Every healthcare professional will encounter a survivor. It may not be labeled as such — it may present as unexplained injuries, a patient who flinches at touch, a disclosure made quietly at the end of a consultation, or a story that doesn’t quite add up. These moments are not rare. They are happening daily, in emergency rooms, clinics, and community health centers across Lebanon — and most nurses have never been trained to recognize them.
This program addresses that gap directly. In a country where SGBV remains deeply underreported and survivors have few safe places to turn, the nurse who knows how to respond can change the outcome entirely. With nearly 1 in 3 women globally having experienced intimate partner or sexual violence, the clinical encounter is often the only opportunity for a survivor to be seen, believed, and supported.
This training equips nurses with the clinical knowledge, practical skills, and ethical framework to recognize signs of SGBV, handle disclosures with care, and connect survivors to the pathways they need — not with hesitation, but with confidence, compassion, and safety.
